Yomotto!
WHY
I believe books enrich people’s live. During remote work due to COVID, I went back my hometown Kyoto, borrowed some books at the Kyoto City Library. However, I read less since I have struggled to borrow & return books quickly and safely since the library has only a website for PC for borrowing books in person. Therefore, I designed a smartphone app and system that enable people to borrow & return books more seamlessly and safely under the COVID situation.
WHAT
A smartphone app of Kyoto City Library to borrow and return books more easily with high usability.
A system that enables people to borrow and return books more easily and safely under the COVID situation, it seamlessly connect with the smartphone app.
HOW
To bring this concept to life I started to collect problems on the website when I try to borrow & return books through my smartphone. Broke down the problems into more concrete pieces in general level.
Ideated some key features by considering user flows & solution ideas for the system design, put them into a wireframe and prototype.
Problems
Break down problems into more concrete pieces to solve them, figure out the problems that causes low usability.
Problem details for UI
The UI for smartphone is not designed, it shows UI for PC on a smartphone.
Font size is too small on smartphone
Some interactions are not functioned well
Some features are inconvenient
Does not remember account(Need to type in ID number each time)
Difficult to notice books are ready for borrow/need to be returned
No list for books borrowed previously
Need to bring physical card to borrow books
Solution idea for system
There is not clear & easy system to borrow books without F2F contact Ideated the system to send & return books through a smartphone app and put them into the app features.
User flow
Based on the solution idea, I wrote a user flow to ideate a more detailed and concrete features for a wireframe.
